soffits

Underside of overhangs

Soffits are the undersides of architectural elements—the horizontal surface beneath a roof overhang, arch, balcony, or staircase.

In home construction, soffit most often refers to the panels covering the gap between a wall and the roofline: The wasps built a nest in the soffit.

Soffits typically include vents for attic airflow.
