bargeboard

Decorative roof edge

A bargeboard is a decorative board running along the edge of a gabled roof, covering the ends of the roof timbers where they project beyond the wall.

Often ornately carved in Victorian architecture, bargeboards add visual interest to what would otherwise be plain structural elements: The cottage featured intricate bargeboards with Gothic tracery.
