slayers

Those who destroy

Slayers is the plural of slayer—one who kills, especially in dramatic or violent fashion.

The word has an archaic, literary quality when used literally: dragon slayers, slayers of giants.

In modern usage, slayer often appears in fantasy contexts or as hyperbole for someone who dominates: She's a slayer on the dance floor.

The term gained currency through vampire fiction and the television series *Buffy the Vampire Slayer*.
