ship launch
Maiden voyage start
A ship launch is the ceremony and process of moving a newly built vessel from the shipyard into the water for the first time.
Traditionally accompanied by the smashing of a champagne bottle against the hull and the christening of the ship's name: We attended the launch of the aircraft carrier.
The ship slides down rails or is lowered by crane into the water.
Launch also refers to the event itself: The ship launch drew hundreds of spectators.
