ship decks

Nautical vessel floors

Ship decks are the horizontal platforms that form the floors of a vessel, stacked in layers from hull to superstructure.

The main deck is the principal outdoor level; below it lie lower decks for cargo, machinery, and crew quarters, while upper decks house the bridge and passenger areas.

Sailors swab the deck, meaning they mop it.

To go below decks is to descend into the ship's interior.

All hands on deck calls everyone to the main working surface.
