medical quarantine
Enforced disease separation
Medical quarantine is the isolation of people who may have been exposed to a contagious disease but aren't yet showing symptoms.
Unlike isolation, which separates the already sick, quarantine restricts movement of the potentially infected during an incubation period: Travelers returning from the outbreak zone faced a fourteen-day quarantine.
The practice dates to medieval efforts against plague.
