A sheet metal screw is a fastener with sharp threads designed to cut into thin metal, plastic, or wood without requiring a pre-tapped hole.
The threads run the full length of the shank, and the tip is often pointed or self-drilling.
Unlike machine screws, which mate with pre-threaded holes or nuts, sheet metal screws create their own threads as they're driven in.
