A lag screw is a heavy wood screw with a hexagonal head designed to be driven with a wrench rather than a screwdriver.
Lag screws are used for heavy-duty fastening—attaching lumber to lumber, or securing fixtures to wood framing: The deck ledger was bolted to the house with lag screws.
Also called a lag bolt.
