service mark

Intangible business emblem

A service mark is a trademark that identifies a service rather than a physical product.

Where trademarks protect brand names on goods, service marks protect the names of businesses, organizations, and services: FedEx is a registered service mark.

The distinction matters legally, though in casual use "trademark" covers both.
