serranos
Small fiery peppers
Serranos are small, slender chile peppers commonly used in Mexican cooking, hotter than jalapeños but milder than habaneros.
They're typically eaten raw in salsas and pico de gallo, where their bright, crisp heat stands out: I added a couple of serranos to the guacamole.
Named for the mountain regions (sierras) of Mexico where they originated.
