ghost peppers
Scoville scale toppers
Ghost peppers are extremely hot chili peppers, among the hottest in the world.
Native to northeastern India, they measure over one million Scoville heat units—hundreds of times hotter than jalapeños.
The name translates from Bhut jolokia.
Ghost peppers appear in hot sauces, spicy food challenges, and conversations about culinary endurance: I tried a ghost pepper once and immediately regretted it.
