semi-feral

Not fully domesticated

Semi-feral describes an animal that exists between wild and domesticated states—not fully tame but not completely wild either.

A semi-feral cat might tolerate human presence without allowing touch.

The term applies to livestock gone partially wild or wildlife that has adapted to human proximity: The semi-feral horses of the barrier islands descend from colonial stock.

It occasionally describes people living outside conventional social structures.
