selva

Dense tropical forest

Selva is dense tropical rainforest, especially in the Amazon basin.

The term comes from Spanish and Portuguese for forest, and in English appears mainly in geographic and ecological contexts: The selva contains more biodiversity than any other ecosystem on Earth.

Sometimes used interchangeably with jungle, though selva specifically implies the lowland equatorial rainforest of South America.
