secretaire
Desk with compartments
A secretaire is a type of writing desk, typically with a hinged front panel that folds down to create a writing surface, revealing small drawers and compartments inside.
The word is the French form of secretary, used when referring to this style of antique furniture: a Louis XV secretaire with ormolu mounts.
More common in British than American usage.
