Whatnot is a catch-all term for miscellaneous items too trivial or numerous to name: We talked about work, family, and whatnot.
It signals the end of an incomplete list, similar to "and so on" or "et cetera." The word can also be a noun for a small shelf or stand displaying ornaments and knickknacks—things that are, literally, whatnot.
