sea-stars

Five-armed invertebrates

Sea-stars are starfish—marine animals with arms radiating from a central body, typically five but sometimes more.

The term avoids the misleading "fish" in the common name, since these creatures are echinoderms, not fish.

Marine biologists and aquariums increasingly prefer sea-star: The tide pool was full of purple sea-stars.
