sarking
Beneath the tiles
Sarking is boards or felt laid beneath roof tiles or slates, providing an additional layer of protection against weather.
The term is chiefly British and Australian: The roofers installed new sarking before laying the tiles.
In some regions, sarking also refers to the inner lining of a timber-framed wall.
