rope knot

Sailor's binding work

A rope knot is a fastening made by intertwining rope with itself or another object.

The term is somewhat redundant since most knots are made in rope, cord, or line, but it distinguishes from other knots—a knot in hair, a knot of muscle, a knot in wood grain.

He learned several rope knots in the Boy Scouts.
