rogue planets
Orphaned celestial bodies
Rogue planets are planets that drift through space without orbiting a star.
They may have been ejected from solar systems by gravitational interactions, or formed independently in interstellar space.
Without a parent star to illuminate them, rogue planets are extremely difficult to detect: Astronomers estimate billions of rogue planets wander our galaxy.
