Oort cloud
Solar system's edge
The Oort cloud is a theoretical spherical shell of icy objects surrounding the solar system at extreme distances, perhaps a light-year from the Sun.
Named for Dutch astronomer Jan Oort, who proposed it in 1950, this region is thought to be the source of long-period comets: Comets from the Oort cloud take thousands of years to complete one orbit.
