retapping

Restoring damaged screw holes

Retapping is tapping again.

In plumbing and metalwork, to retap is to recut damaged threads in a hole using a tap tool, restoring the ability to accept screws or bolts: The mechanic had to retap the stripped bolt hole.

In brewing, retapping means reconnecting a keg to the tap system.

More casually, it can mean tapping something a second time: retapping the screen to refresh.
