reinfected
Sick once more
Reinfected means infected again after recovery from a previous infection.
A person who caught COVID, recovered, and later contracted it a second time was reinfected.
The term applies to any pathogen—viral, bacterial, or parasitic—that returns after being cleared from the body: She was reinfected with malaria during her second trip to the region.
