red bricks
Traditional building material
Red bricks are bricks made from clay fired at high temperatures, their characteristic color coming from iron oxide in the clay.
They're the default building material in many regions, so common that brick buildings are often assumed to be red unless specified otherwise.
The old factory was classic red brick.
Red-brick universities in Britain are the practical, industrial-era institutions distinguished from older stone-built ones like Oxford and Cambridge.
