recombining

Joining back together

Recombining is forming new combinations from separated elements.

The word appears most often in genetics, where DNA recombines during reproduction to create new genetic arrangements.

More generally, anything that was combined, then separated, then brought together again is recombining: The band is recombining after a ten-year hiatus.
