recessive genes
Masked hereditary factors
Recessive genes are genetic variants that produce their effect only when inherited from both parents.
A person with one copy is a carrier but shows no symptoms; two copies are needed for the trait to appear.
Many inherited conditions follow this pattern: Both parents carried the recessive gene for cystic fibrosis.
Contrasts with dominant genes, which express with just one copy.
