printed maps

Foldable road guides

Printed maps are maps produced on paper or similar physical material, as distinguished from digital maps viewed on screens.

The term gained currency only after digital mapping became widespread—before that, maps were simply maps.

Printed maps remain valued for reliability without batteries, ease of annotation, and the broad perspective a large sheet provides: I still keep printed maps in the car for emergencies.
