predecimal

Old British currency

Predecimal describes the period before a currency system converted to decimal units.

In British usage, it refers to the monetary system before 1971, when pounds were divided into shillings and pence rather than the current 100 pence per pound: My grandmother still has some predecimal coins.

The term appears in discussions of historical prices and currency conversion.
