practice swings
Pre-shot club motions
Practice swings are preparatory swings taken before an actual attempt in golf, baseball, or similar sports.
The golfer addresses an imaginary ball, rehearsing form and tempo without consequence.
The phrase extends to any low-stakes rehearsal: Consider the first few months a practice swing before we launch officially.
Also called warm-up swings.
