points of order
Parliamentary rule challenges
Points of order are procedural objections raised during a formal meeting, challenging whether rules are being followed.
A participant who believes the chair or another member has violated parliamentary procedure calls out point of order to halt proceedings and request a ruling.
The phrase sometimes appears sarcastically when someone nitpicks or derails a conversation with technicalities.
