pleurae
Thoracic cavity membranes
Pleurae is the plural of pleura, the thin membrane that lines the chest cavity and covers the lungs.
The two layers—one against the ribs, one against the lung—slide against each other as you breathe.
Inflammation of the pleurae is pleurisy, causing sharp chest pain with each breath.
