plasma ball
Glowing discharge sphere
A plasma ball is a clear glass sphere containing low-pressure gas, with an electrode at the center that generates colorful tendrils of electrical discharge.
The filaments of light respond to touch, following a hand placed on the glass.
Popular as decorative novelties and science demonstrations since the 1980s: She had a plasma ball on her desk that made her fingertips glow purple.
