pile-ups
Multi-vehicle highway wrecks
Pile-ups is the plural of pile-up, a collision involving multiple vehicles that crash into one another in succession: Traffic was backed up for miles after the pile-up on the interstate.
The term extends to any accumulation of things that have stacked up problematically: a pile-up of unfinished work, a pile-up of dirty dishes in the sink.
