pelvic exams
Internal reproductive assessments
A pelvic exam is a medical examination of the female reproductive organs—vagina, cervix, uterus, and ovaries.
The patient lies on her back with feet in stirrups while a clinician visually inspects the external genitalia, then inserts a speculum to view the cervix and manually palpates the internal organs.
Pelvic exams screen for infections, abnormalities, and cancers: She has her annual pelvic exam next week.
