paygrade
Compensation level designation
A paygrade is a level in a compensation structure, especially in military or government employment, where each grade corresponds to a specific salary range.
The phrase above my paygrade means something exceeds one's authority or responsibility—a way of deflecting decisions to higher-ups: That's above my paygrade.
Sometimes spelled as two words: pay grade.
