Secret Service
Executive protection agency
The Secret Service is a U.S. federal agency responsible for protecting the president, vice president, and their families, as well as investigating financial crimes like counterfeiting.
Originally created to combat currency fraud after the Civil War, its protective role expanded after presidential assassinations: The Secret Service swept the building before the president arrived. (Lowercase secret service refers to espionage agencies generally.)
