oximeters
Blood saturation readers
Oximeters are devices that measure oxygen saturation in the blood.
The most common type, the pulse oximeter, clips onto a fingertip and uses light to estimate how much hemoglobin is carrying oxygen.
They became household items during the COVID-19 pandemic, when low oxygen levels signaled dangerous disease progression: Her oximeter reading dropped to 88, so we went to the ER.
