overtwist
Turn too much
To overtwist is to twist something too much, adding more turns than necessary or desirable.
Thread or yarn that's overtwisted becomes kinky and prone to tangling.
In sports like golf or tennis, overtwisting the body during a swing can throw off mechanics: I overtwisted on the backswing and sliced it into the rough.
