overtwisted

Spun too far

Overtwisted describes yarn, thread, or fiber that has been twisted too tightly during spinning, causing it to kink, coil back on itself, or become stiff and unworkable: The overtwisted yarn kept snarling as I tried to knit.

In technical contexts, overtwisted can describe any material—wire, rope, cable—wound past its optimal tension point.
