overtighten
Turn too far
To overtighten is to tighten something too much—beyond what's necessary or safe.
Screws and bolts are commonly overtightened, which can strip threads or crack materials: Don't overtighten the lug nuts or you'll warp the rotors.
The word appears most often in warnings and instructions.
