overrotated
Turned too far
Overrotated describes a rotation that went too far, past the intended stopping point.
In gymnastics and diving, an overrotated flip means the athlete spun beyond the optimal landing position: She overrotated on the dismount and stumbled forward.
The term applies to any context involving rotation—a golfer's swing, a dancer's turn, a spacecraft's maneuver.
In figurative business and political contexts, overrotated means overcorrecting or going too far in a new direction: The company overrotated toward cost-cutting and gutted its R&D.
