underturned

Turned facing downward

Underturned describes something turned less than expected or required—the opposite of overturned in the rotational sense.

A cook might leave vegetables underturned, browning unevenly.

In sports, an underturned jump or spin lacks sufficient rotation: She underturned the triple axel and had to two-foot the landing.

The word appears most often in figure skating and gymnastics commentary.
