on duty
At one's post
On duty describes someone actively working their assigned shift or fulfilling official responsibilities: The officer on duty took the report.
It applies especially to jobs with scheduled shifts—police, nurses, soldiers, security guards.
The opposite is off duty.
Someone on duty is expected to be alert, available, and performing their role rather than on personal time.
