occupation zone
Foreign-administered region
An occupation zone is a territory controlled by a foreign military power, typically following a war.
The term is most associated with Germany after World War II, when the country was divided into American, British, French, and Soviet occupation zones: Berlin itself was split into four occupation zones.
The concept applies whenever victorious powers partition conquered territory for administration.
