nopal

Edible Mexican cactus

Nopal is a type of cactus native to Mexico, especially the prickly pear.

The flat, paddle-shaped pads are eaten as a vegetable in Mexican cuisine, typically grilled or added to salads and tacos: nopal con huevos.

The plant also produces edible fruit called tunas.
