non-biological

Without blood ties

Non-biological describes things that are not derived from or related to living organisms.

In family contexts, it distinguishes relationships formed through adoption, marriage, or other social bonds rather than genetic connection: Her non-biological father raised her from infancy.

The term also applies in scientific contexts to distinguish synthetic or inorganic materials from those produced by living systems: non-biological carbon sources.
