newsie

Young paper seller

A newsie is a person who sells newspapers on the street, especially a young boy hawking papers on a corner—a figure largely historical now but iconic in depictions of early 20th-century urban life: The newsies shouted headlines to attract buyers.

The word remains familiar from the 1992 Disney musical *Newsies* about the 1899 newsboys' strike.
