nester

Bird constructing shelter

A nester is someone who settles down and makes a home.

The term often appears with modifiers: an empty nester is a parent whose children have grown and left home; a home nester prefers staying in rather than going out.

In the American West, nesters were homesteaders who fenced land for farming, often conflicting with open-range cattle ranchers.
