needleworking

Stitching by hand

Needleworking is the craft or activity of creating decorative items or garments using a needle—embroidery, cross-stitch, needlepoint, and similar techniques.

The term covers both the process and the hobby: She spent her evenings needleworking by the fire.

Less common than the noun needlework, which names the finished product or the craft itself.
