the nativity

Manger scene depiction

The nativity refers to the birth of Jesus Christ, or artistic representations of that event.

A nativity scene depicts the infant Jesus in a manger, typically with Mary, Joseph, shepherds, and animals: They set up the nativity on the front lawn.

The word comes from a Latin term for birth, but in English it almost always refers specifically to Christ's birth, especially around Christmas.
