mudballs

Rounded earth projectiles

Mudballs are balls of mud, formed by rolling or shaping wet earth.

Children make them for throwing; some cultures craft polished decorative mudballs called *dorodango*.

In wastewater treatment, mudballs are problematic clumps that form in filter beds.

The word occasionally appears as mild, playful invective: Get out of here, you little mudball.
